Women in Manufacturing

Women in Manufacturing

Includes biographies of the 14 women who work in manufacturing careers who tell their stories in the 15-minute DVD Women in Manufacturing.

There is a lot of variety in the manufacturing represented, including custom metal fabrication, structural steel fabrication, and manufacturers of nano-positioning systems, waterbeds for cows, canoe and kayak paddles, cast-iron skillets, and a consumer packaged goods company. “Manufacturing is the greatest wealth-creator for any country,” points out the owner of a factory. “If you make things and then you sell them -- either within your own geography, within your country -- or you export them, you’re creating wealth.” Another woman, who works as a production team lead in a different factory, points out that “You get to go home feeling like you’ve accomplished something.” And, she adds, “To me, if you work in an office, you’re just kind of stuck at your desk doing the same thing.”

The resource guide includes the full script of the DVD, as well as viewing notes and a section called Discussion Starters and Discussion Questions designed to stimulate more general discussions about work and nontraditional careers.

Resource Guide has 114 pages.
